When Soap Just Isn’t Enough
A Review of Ursa Major Face Wash

I have to be honest that until recently my daily face cleansing consisted of my bar of Lever 2000 and some water, which I would imagine is the same for most men. We, for the most part, have not been groomed for a healthy skin care routine. My mom was lucky if I broke out the soap as a kid. When I hit my teens my concern was with simply being clean just in case some random girl decided to snuggle up close – which regrettably never really happened. By the time I was in my 20s my routine was set. Now in my late 30s, the face looking back at me in the mirror isn’t as kind as it was 15 or 20 years ago.

IMG_20131019_145248With father time breathing down my neck at a quicker pace than I would like, my wife pointing out that I need to take better care of my skin, and all of this exposure to quality shaving products, it is only logical that my attention eventually needed to turn to proper skin care.

I have my post shave routine down, where I am lacking is in my proper skin care. A quality morning scrub along with a proper routine in the evening. Helping me on my way is a sample bottle of Face Wash from Ursa Major that I received a while back. I have been using it for about a week now and found it quite easy, enjoyable and beneficial.

IMG_20131019_145443I noticed a difference in my skin straight away – after my first use – which is either telling me that soap and water is that ineffective or the Ursa Major Face Wash is that good. I’m guessing that it is somewhere in the middle. Regardless, my skin felt smooth, and no trace of oily residue I normally have after my standard soap and water wash. I know a week isn’t a long enough time to truly measure the effectiveness of a product like this, but I have noticed a considerable difference in the look and feel of my skin.

The application was quite simple. With warm water you build up a lather in your hands then apply it to your face and let it sit for a about a minute, rinse it off. Simple. Real simple. So simple that there isn’t any excuse not to do this.

Another attractive aspect of the Ursa Major Face Wash is its scent.  It has a wonderful combination of Cedar, Lime, and Spearmint. I would love to have it in a shave soap. No single scent dominates the other. At times the Spearmint was what I picked up other times the Cedar or Lime. Awesome.

It might seem pricey to some, but it is well worth the quality of the product. At the end of the day you get what you pay for, the Ursa Major Face Wash has no toxins, or chemicals that will irritate your skin. It is 99.5% natural and 51% organic (numbers from the Ursa Major web site). What more could you ask for.
