Pinaud Clubman Aftershave Original Scent

Scent Pleasantness:

pinaud clubmanFor the most part my post shave routine consisted of a rinse followed by my Alum Stick. More recently I have been using Face Tonic followed by some Face Balm (specifically Ursa Major products). But I thought I would expand my horizons a bit and explore what other options are out there for me when it comes to a post shave routine. So I started with a classic – Pinaud Clubman Aftershave original scent.

My immediate reaction to opening the bottle was a nostalgic journey back to my childhood barbershop. There are a few products out there that help elicit visions of that classic Barbershop feeling, but none that I have experienced come anywhere near that of Pinaud Clubman Aftershave. I immediately splashed some on my face and ran down the stairs for my wife to share in my excitement – but she was, for obvious reasons, unable to share in my excitement.

Officially the scent is described as Bursting with top notes of orange, bergamot and mouth-watering lemon with green nuances throughout. The floral heart of jasmine, orange flower and geranium dance with lavender and is completed with a warm musk background (according to the website). I would simply refer to it as a nostalgic, manly, classic scent.

Although the Clubman is alcohol based I can say that applying it after a shave provides more of a cool or refreshing sensation than a burning one.  It could be that over the few weeks that I have been testing the aftershave I achieved the perfect, irritation free, shave every time but it is unlikely. Not to say that there isn’t a bit of sting, but that is to be expected. The aftershave leaves your face feeling smooth and irritation free.

I wouldn’t give high marks when it comes to moisturizing but considering that this is an alcohol based product, it didn’t dry out my skin.

I have changed my routine a bit because of the Pinaud Clubman Aftershave. I used to apply face balm after a shave, whether I used my alum stick or tonic, but I found that I didn’t like the way the balm reacted after using the aftershave (of course I let it dry completely before applying), but I also didn’t like the competing scents. So as a result if I use the aftershave following my morning shave I use the face balm at night before going to bed.

I don’t see myself using the Pinaud Clubman Aftershave on a daily basis, but without a doubt it will definitely be part of my aftershave rotation. If you haven’t tried the Clubman Aftershave you should add it to your list straight away.
