I have been using Prep Pre & Post Cream, which is also referred to as Prep Original Cream, for the past week. I was looking for aftershave products when I ordered it, so when I received this in the post I was happy to find that in addition to using this product as an aftershave I was encouraged to use it as a pre-shave cream, as well as a remedy for chapped hands, sunburn, diaper rash, insect bites and apparently sore feet. I have not tested the product outside of shaving, but I am oddly looking forward to my next mosquito bite. The positive in all of this was that if it failed as an aftershave it had a potential life beyond shaving. Luckily, I have nothing but great things to say about Prep.
I can honestly say that there isn’t a thing that I don’t enjoy about Prep Original Cream. The only area I could see someone taking issue with is the scent. Personally I love the smell it is reminiscent of Proraso Green with its strong menthol scent, but with added hints of peppermint and camphor. It has a very refreshing clean smell that doesn’t last very long once applied.
Outside of the scent I can only list the positives:
It works. The cream soothes the skin, leaving your face feeling soft and smooth (I only noticed because my wife pointed it out), without it feeling oily.
A little goes a long way. Assuming that I only use my jar of Prep for aftershave purposes I don’t see myself having to purchase another jar for a very long time.
You can use it as shave cream. I gave this a try for one of my shaves and it works! Treat it as a brushless shave cream. Having said that I see myself sticking to my standard creams and soaps.
The packaging has a very retro old school feel to it and looks great on my shave self. No need to tuck it away.
Prep Original is widely used in Italy, produced in San Marino, it is one of the standard alternatives to Proraso. As mentioned above it has many uses beyond an aftershave product making it that much more appealing. It’s a great product at a great price that I don’t see too many people being disappointed with.
