The answer to how to hold your shave brush is of course the way in which is best for you. In the end if your grip is comfortable and your lather desirable you should probably stick with it. However, if you seem to be struggling with that ‘perfect’ lather or if you are just curious how your grip compares to others I thought I quick write up on how I hold my brush might be helpful.
If I am using a brush with a shorter handle I tend to choke up on the brush so my fingers are wrapped around the bristles. I find that it provides a lot more control over the brush and of course success with my lather.
For brushes with longer handles I find myself using the end of the brush handle, mainly due to the fact that I can’t comfortably wrap my hand around the handle as with the small handle to reach the bristles. When I use my longer handled brushes I apply the lather in more of a paint brush fashion than I do with one with a shorter handle.
In the end, as I have said many times before on this blog, it really comes down to what works for you. I don’t believe that there is the right way to hold the brush. If it is comfortable, and your are producing lather that works it is probably the right way for you. If things are not working for you you can try one of the methods above as a starting point.
